Abstract

ABSTRACT
Aim. The aim of this work was to study venous thromboembolic (VTED)disease in the cardiology department of the Point G.CHU. Material and methods. This was a descriptive study, from January 1st 2014 to June 30th 2016. All patients hospitalized for venous thromboembolism diseases documented by a venous echo-doppler and\or a lung angio-scanner were concerned. Results. The prevalence of venous thromboembolism disease was 4.95 %, the pulmonary embolism was isolated in 60.92% and the association of the PE and the DVT was 1.15 %. The average age was 54±17.79 years with extremes of 18 years and 100 years. The female sex was predominant (63.22%). Emboligenic heart disease (29.90%) and cancer (16.10%) were major thrombotic risk factors. Cardiovascular risk factors were arterial hypertension (34.63%) and tobacco (16.44%). Dyspnea was present in 58.62% of subjects and tachypnoea was present in 73.62%. The clinical probability of the Wells simplified score was high in 17.65% in venous thrombosis while it was high in 25.93% of patients in PE according to the Geneva score. Conclusion. VTED is multifactorial and deserves systematic primary prevention in hospitalized patients or post-surgery to reduce morbidity and mortality.
