Abstract
Oesophageal foreign bodies of the cervical oesophagus are dominated by coins in children, while in adults they usually consist of incompletely chewed food. Under certain circumstances, unusual foreign bodies may be encountered. The authors report an unusual case of ingestion of a metallic beer bottle cap with impaction in the cervical oesophagus in a 41-year-old patient after excessive alcohol consumption. Removal was performed using a rigid esophagoscope. The authors highlight the difficulties related to the embedding of the cap’s serrations into the oesophageal mucosa, which can occur with this type of foreign body. The patient had no postoperative complications.
