Conclusion.

Introduction. Hepatic abscesses (HA) are caused by various types of infectious agents with contributing factors. The prognosis has been improved by early diagnosis through ultrasound and antibiotic treatment. Objective. To report the prevalence, clinical presentation and evolution of hepatic abscess in the pediatric department of Gabriel Touré University Teaching Hospital. Methods. This was a retrospective study of 31 HA files between January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2018. Results. During a period of four and a half years, 31 cases of HA were collected, representing a prevalence of 158 / 100,000 admissions in the pediatric department. There were 21 boys and 10 girls (sex ratio = 2.1). The mean age was 5.68 years old. Associated factors were malnutrition, anemia and low socioeconomic level. The main reason for consultation was abdominal pain (55%). The mean time delay before consultation was 16.39 days. The triad of Fontan was present in 51.6% children. The location of the abscess was in the right lobe (54,83%) and the left lobe (45,17%). Elevene children had a cytobacteriological examination of pus and a germ was identified in six cases (Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella terrigina, Acinetobacter Boumannie and Pseudomonas Aeroginosa). Amoebic serology was positive in 11 children. Peritonitis and right pleurisy secondary to ruptured abscess were the main complications. Conclusion. Hepatic abscess is relatively rare in our service. Associated factors are malnutrition, anemia and low socioeconomic level. The main complications are peritonitis and pleurisy secondary to rupture.
}, number={4}, journal={HEALTH SCIENCES AND DISEASE}, author={Sacko, Karamoko and Maiga, B and Diakité, AA and Traoré, F and Coulibaly, O and Konaté, D and Doumbia, AK and Konaré, H and Dembélé, A and Touré, A and Traoré, M and Coulibaly, Y and Cissé, ME and Mariko, L and Dicko, FT and Sylla, M and Togo, B and Lachaux, A}, year={2019}, month={Jun.} }
