Conclusion.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Caloncoba echinata (C. echinata) and Casearia barteri (C. barteri) are two species of the flacourtiaceae family involved in alternative therapies for diabetes in Dja and Lobo [1]. The aim of this study was to establish a pharmacological profile of the aqueous extracts of these two plants to justify their use in traditional medicine. Material and methods: The study was experimental. The trunk barks of the two plants studied were collected in the EVINDISSI forest with geographical coordinates 3°05’ and 3°10’ North latitude; 11°50’ and 11°55’ longitude. The extracts were obtained by aqueous maceration. Oral acute toxicity was performed according to OECD guideline 423. The evaluation of the hypoglycaemic activity and the determination of some biochemical parameters were performed after induction of insulinopenia by streptozotocin in rats. The reference molecule used was metformin. The evaluation of the antioxidant activity via the FRAP and DDPH method was also performed. Data analysis was done with GraphPad Prism 9 and Microsoft® Excel® 365. Results: The trunk barks of C. echinata and C. barteri presented an extraction yield of 16.9% and 16.01% respectively. The toxicity study revealed an LD50 greater than 5000 mg/kg body weight (mg/Kg BW) for both extracts. No significant differences on biochemical parameters were revealed. A decrease in blood glucose was noted in the batches treated with the aqueous extracts of both plants. An improvement in the lipid profile was observed for the aqueous extract of C. barteri at 800mg/kg BW. The evaluation of the antioxidant activity showed that the extracts have an anti-radical activity and a weak reducing activity. Conclusion: The aqueous extracts of Caloncoba echinata and Casearia barteri have the property of decreasing glycaemic parameters in Wistar rats, with the aqueous extract at 800 mg/kg PC being more active. Both extracts show no acute oral toxicity at 2000 mg/kg BW.

}, number={1}, journal={HEALTH SCIENCES AND DISEASE}, author={Nyangono Ndongo Martin and Soppo Lobe CV and Mbole Mvondo Jeanne M and Myniem Ngombi A and Benga Mekoulou CF and Nko’o Moïse HJ and Maniepie Foumane S and Ndemgne G and Mvomo Essam L and Mengbwa Elono M and Assomo Ndemba and Etoundi Ngoa Laurent Serge}, year={2022}, month={Dec.} }
