Conclusion.
ABSTRACT
Introduction. Arterial hypertension (HTA) is a major health problem in the world. Hypertension is a public health concern among workers. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of hypertension and to identify the associated factors in an oil service company. Methods. An observational and cross-sectional study, for descriptive purposes, conducted from January 2018 to July 2018 with an exhaustive sample of workers from an oil service company. Results. The study included 399 employees including 334 men (83.7%) and 65 women (16.3%). The average age of employees was a 41.8 ±8.3 year with extremes ranging from 21 to 58 years. The age group ≥40 year was the majority that is 228 employees (57.1%). Laborers accounted for 341 employees (85.4%). Hypertension was found in 148 workers, a prevalence of 37.0% with 129 (32.3%) hypertensive maneuvers. Statistical analysis identified the following parameters as factors linked to hypertension in this company: sex (p<0,001), age (≥40 years, p<0,001), BMI (<25kg/m², p<0,001), seniority with reference to a duration of 1 to 5 years (6-10 years versus, p< 0,001; and >10 years versus 1-5 years, p<0,001) and physical inactivity (p=0,001) and professional status was not associated with hypertension(p=0,522). Conclusion. The prevalence of hypertension in the study company is very high compared to the general population. The factors associated with the occurrence of hypertension in the company have been identified.
ER -
