Conclusion.

ABSTRACT
Introduction. Initially developed due to a lack of incubators, the kangaroo mother method (KMM) is now known for its many advantages in the management of preterm newborns. The obstacles to its implementation in neonatal units are diverse. The aim of the study was to determine the knowledge and perceptions of mothers in order to improve the delivery of MMK. Materials and methods. Between December 2020 and May 2021, a descriptive cross-sectional study of 80 mothers was carried out in the neonatology unit of the Ngaoundere regional hospital. Results. In total, 52 mothers (65%) had a level of education lower than primary school and 61 mothers (76.25%) were informed about MMK in neonatology during their hospitalization, 8 (10.00%) on television and 2 (2.50%) of them in the antenatal consultation service. During their hospitalization, 9 mothers (11.27%) with a level of education lower than primary school had not heard of MMK. The benefits of MMK were not known by 48% of the mothers. The majority, 71 (88.75%), found MMK restrictive. Conclusion. The lack of information before hospitalization, and the lack of mastery of the advantages explained before the initiation of MMK would be factors justifying its depreciative perception and its restrictive application.
ER -
