Conclusion. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading severe ocular complication of diabetes and a major cause of avoidable blindness. In sub-Saharan Africa, it affects about one-third of diabetic patients. This study aimed to identify the difficulties encountered by patients with DR in their management at the ophthalmology department of Treichville University Hospital in Abidjan. Methods. We conducted an exploratory and descriptive study from 1 October to 30 November 2024 at the ophthalmology department of Treichville University Hospital. We included 30 patients with DR, followed in the department and attending for a monthly check-up or a post-intravitreal injection appointment. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to patients and analysed with Epi Info, Excel, and Word. Results. The age of 83.3% of patients was between 50 and 75 years; 60% were women.
