Abstract

RESUME
Introduction. Conclusion.
ABSTRACT
Introduction. In northern Cameroon, training in the use of CT equipment is provided mainly during initial installation by equipment suppliers, with training focused on the purpose of routine examinations and rarely on dose optimisation. The aim of our study was to assess the level of knowledge of CT equipment users in public and private hospitals in the Northern part of Cameroon regarding the parameters influencing irradiation during this examination. Methodology. This was a cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted from 8 to 14 April 2024, involving all technical staff in charge of CT examinations in the imaging departments of public and private hospitals in the northern part of Cameroon. Results. We studied 30 participants. Their mean age was 31.63 years, with a sex ratio of 1.30. The age groups most represented were 26 to 30 years (26.7%) and 31 to 35 years (43.3%). Master's degree holders in Radiology and Medical Imaging were most represented (53.3%). The average experience period of the participants in the profession and in performing CT examinations was 4.32 years and 3.81 years respectively. Many of the participants, particularly 9 (30%) and 10 (33.3%), had short professional experience (1 to 3 years) in the profession and in performing scans. The rate of participants who correctly answered the questions relating to diagnostic reference levels in CT scanning was 30%. The highest scores were obtained by participants with at least four years' professional experience. Conclusion. The lowest scores were recorded for questions relating to automatic tube current modulation software, milliamperage, helix pitch and image reconstruction.
