Abstract
ABSTRACT
Dermoid cysts are benign, slow-growing tumoral formations of congenital origin, resulting from the aberrant inclusion of ectodermal elements during neural tube closure, between the 3rd and 5th weeks of embryonic development. They are usually asymptomatic, but can lead to complications such as torsion, rupture, infection, haemorrhage and malignant degeneration. Complete rupture is a rare event leading to peritonitis. We report on the management of chemical peritonitis secondary to torsion of an unruptured dermoid cyst in a young woman.
