Abstract

Introduction. Psychiatric pathologies are a major public health issue. The purpose of this study was to describe the epidemiological and clinical profile of new patients followed at the Zébé Psychiatric Hospital. Methods. This was a prospective study with descriptive aim conducted from January 1 to December 31, 2019 at the Psychiatric Hospital of Zébé. Results. During our study, we registered 615 new patients out of 2660 patients. The average age of our patients was 32.28 ± 12.01 years. Male sex predominated (62.4%). Patients had the secondary instruction level in 47.3% of cases. Singles accounted for 58.2% of cases. Artisans/growers accounted for 41.8% of patients. Only nine point six percent (9.6%) of patients were not taking any psychoactive substances. Schizophrenia spectrum disorders accounted for 54.6% of patients and substance use disorders accounted for 21.3% of patients. Conclusion.  The Psychiatric Hospital of Zébé being the only psychiatric hospital of reference in Togo, it is very solicited by patients suffering from chronic and serious pathologies.
