Abstract

We show antagonisms and synergisms between Schistosoma haematobium, Ascaris lumbricoides, and Trichuris trichiura in co-infected hosts in southwest Cameroon. The mean intensity of each of the parasites varied according to whether the co-infecting parasite was S. haematobium, A. lumbricoides, or T. trichiura. Using immunological phenomena already described in the literature, we suggest reasons for these interactions between the parasites.
