Abstract
La pratique de l'allongement des membres est peu répandue en Afrique alors que ses applications sont tout aussi nombreuses qu'en Occident où il suscite beaucoup d'engouement ces dernières années. Le but de cette étude est de rapporter une expérience du traitement d'une inégalité de longueur des membres inférieurs sur hémimélie fibulaire par allongement par le fixateur externe d’Ilizarov.
Il s'agit d'un jeune garçon de 6 ans qui présentait une inégalité de longueur gênante de 130 mm sur hémimélie fibulaire avec brièveté et incurvation du tibia gauche. Ce tibia a été allongé par la technique classique d'Ilizarov : ostéotomie et allongement progressif. Le rythme d'allongement était de 1 mm par jour (1/2 mm deux fois par jour).
L'objectif de 130 mm a été atteint après 139 jours. Le garçon a porté le fixateur externe d'Ilizarov pendant 268 jours. Quelques complications ont été rapportées mais en aucun cas elles n’ont entraîné l'arrêt du traitement : douleurs, infections des broches et aggravation du genu valgum initial
