Abstract

Introduction New diagnostic tools allow us not only to search for the presence of specific fungi in pathological products directly, but also through culture and perfectly identify the fungus. Material and methods Descriptive and cross-sectional study which was carried out from May 2023 to May 2024. The samples were collected from patients received at the Jamot hospital in Yaoundé and presenting signs of lower respiratory infections. We cultured the samples in a Petri dish containing Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) combined with chloramphenicol and gentamicin. The cultures grew between 24 and 48 hours. The yeast colonies were isolated. Positive samples were preserved in brain and heart broth supplemented with 15% glycerol and stored at -20°C then -80°C until MALD1-TOF MS analysis. Species identification by MALDI-TOF was carried out at the Parasitology-Mycology Laboratory of IHU Méditerranée Infection, Marseille, France. Results: The number of our population was 310 with a male predominance and the most represented age group was 41 to 51 years old with an average age of 40.9 ± 16.82. On average we had good yeast identification scores by MALDI-TOF. No significant association between isolated yeasts and sex. No significant association between isolated yeasts and age. Conclusion: The Profile of yeasts identified on MALDI-TOF had on average a good score with Candida albicans which was the most represented yeast. We do not note any association between age, sex and the yeasts identified
