Abstract

Introduction. Our objective is to report and share our experience of the treatment of 19 serious hand and wrist trauma cases admitted and operated on at the department. Patients and Methods. This was a retrospective study carried out during a period of 2 years, collecting and comparing 19 hand and wrist serious trauma patients treated at the hospital of Mopti all of them admitted in a situation of emergency. The completed lesion-causing result was appreciated at surgical bloc. The wounds were classified according to Gustilo-Anderson and the amputations carried out in emergency were appreciated according to MESS score. The treatment was mainly surgical. Re-education was systematically prescribed and the treatment result was appreciated by Kapandji indication. Results. Patients’ average age was 26.7 years old (13 to 59 years old) with male predominance (84%). Farmers were concerned with 63% of the cases and it involved work accident in 74%. The patients were right-handed in 84% of the cases and the lesions were located on the right in 95%. The open factures represented 89%, wire splinting carried out in 52%. Conclusion. Serious hand and wrist trauma affect active youth and manual workers, often caused by work accidents causing serious open factures and amputations trauma. These traumas being seasonal, protection measures must be reinforced before the beginning of harvest in order to minimize these lesions.
